Out of the Dust is a novel by Karen Hesse. The novel takes place between 1934 and 1935. It tells the story of a young girl and her struggle to grow up in Oklahoma with a farmer as a father during the Great Dust Bowl.

Bumps
Billie Jo's father starts to develop bumps on his face. Because he is stubborn, he doesn't go to the doctor's. Billie Jo wants him to go to the doctor's to have them checked out.
