Out of the Dust is a novel by Karen Hesse. The novel takes place between 1934 and 1935. It tells the story of a young girl and her struggle to grow up in Oklahoma with a farmer as a father during the Great Dust Bowl.

Billie Jo's Hands
While at the doctor's, she asked about what could be done about her hands. The doctor tells her the best thing she could was to use her hands. By doing so, it would help her hands become normal again.
